Medical Cannabis Card Status Integration in South Dakota Health Link
The South Dakota Medical Cannabis Program is an initiative aimed at providing access to medical cannabis for qualifying patients in the State of South Dakota.
Practitioners and care teams can now access the status of a patient’s medical cannabis card through South Dakota Health Link’s Point of Care Exchange. By having access to this important information in a patient’s health record, providers are able to provide medical assessment of a patient within the healthcare facility.
To access SD Medical Cannabis Card Status (see below image as well for more details):
- In the Point of Care Exchange, user will search SD Health Link for their patient, once the appropriate patient has been selected, the user will click “View Medical Cannabis Card Status” to send request to Medical Cannabis electronic system.
- The result will display in a pop-up box with one of the following messages:
- Patient has an active medical cannabis card.
- Patient does not have an active medical cannabis card (Patient has had a card, but it’s not currently active)
- Patient is not found. (Patient has never had a card)
- Multiple patients found, cannot determine card status. (User would need to confirm directly with patient)
