Event Notifications: Meeting CMS Final Rule Requirements

Posted on: October 1, 2020   |   Category: News Releases

Have you heard? The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) has extended the timeline for healthcare providers to receive emergency room admit/discharge notifications and inpatient admit, discharge, and transfer notifications implementation until the Spring of 2021 under the Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F). This will allow adequate time for hospitals/critical access hospitals (CAHs)/psychiatric hospitals/small and rural hospitals to comply with the new requirements.

As the state’s health information exchange, South Dakota Health Link can deliver these notifications to healthcare providers to support them meeting the Final Rule requirements whether a member or non-member. As a member of South Dakota Health Link, healthcare providers can utilize our Even Notification (Notify) service and receive these notifications via standard email (no PHI included), text message (no PHI included), Direct secure message (PHI included). Non-members of South Dakota Health Link can still meet these requirements by receiving notifications via Direct secure message.
